Be brave enough to start a conversation that matters.
IMG_9329.JPG

As a white woman, I have often had to rely on people of color to teach me about my own race, my implicit bias and racism. I have had to lean into conversations but more importantly, to listen and truly hear perspectives and experiences that are vastly different than my own.

I believe deepy in the power of sharing our personal stories and connecting through conversation. I will not continue putting the burden of educating white people on people of color. I need to be an active part of the solution and own the burdens I have consciously and unconsciously allowed myself not to carry.

And I want to be clear about something. I am in no way proposing that I can explain what it feels like from the BIPOC perspective or that experiences I have had can somehow relate to the feeling of racism. I am merely an ally, a helper, a facilitator in this process.

I also want to note that I am collaborating with and gathering feedback from people of color (mostly women) on this labor of love.

"Amanda is able to offer a spot under the umbrella while offering a chance to recognize the rain we’ve been enduring. I appreciate that Amanda recognizes that this work is challenging, meant to be uncomfortable, personal, and ongoing. Amanda and I have had multiple engaging, invigorating and life altering conversations around race that facilitate growth toward the goal of creating a more just society."                       - Shaun Pakenham
